This group is proud of their long history of taking gymnastics out of the gym and showeing their skills to thousands of people who atend outdoor events.
The efforts of the coaches, gymnasts and parents to organise the transportation and collection of the equipment is immense. Sarah and Johnny Ingham have our special thanks for the loan of transport.
This summer was a difficult one in terms of the weather and the number of events that were so wet the group were unable to perform. However' the squad were well received at all of their events and the standard has inproved due to all of the hard work done in the gym.
Display Squad
Goodbye Jonny
Hello Jonny
We say a very sad goodbye to Jonny Dobson as coach to the Display Squad: Recently married to the lovely Haley, he’s claiming back his weekends and rightly so. We’ll miss your fun enthusiastic and crazy coaching Jonny and wish you and Haley all the very best.
A big warm welcome to Jonny Ingham as Jonny D’s replacement. Jonny I. has already worked closely with the Squad in training and displays performed in galas over many years. It hasn’t taken Jonny very long to settle in and make his mark. Welcome to the team.
Despite dreadful weather over the summer the Squad managed to perform displays at North Bridge Leisure Centre in April & June for the Calderdale Schools Gymnastic Association at their events, Brighouse Gala in June, St. Chads School Gala in a tiny hall in July, at Mytholmroyd Gala and Birdedge Village Festival on the same day in July.
Activity Day:
The Display Squad went on an activity day in Bradley Wood in Rastrick. The team reached new heights when they climbed the 40 foot wall, scaled 40 foot poles, completed the low rope challenge and some even dared to take on the high rope challenge. Other team games and a spot of archery finishing off with a family BBQ made it a fabulous time. Can’t wait until next year’s challenge! Carol Rayner
Special Mention:
One of the brightest routines was at the annual School’s Gymnastic Competition at North Bridge!
Well that was until the centre was hit with a massive power cut. Bravely our gymnasts held their nerve and were all safely brought off the floor in pitch darkness. Congratulations to coaches and gymnasts for handling a tricky situation well.
Thanks go out to all staff and parents who have the task of not only delivering gymnasts to the venue but have to take equipment to and from the gym to the display site.
